Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioner Diploma Program

Go Beyond Acupuncture: Add TCM Herbs and Theory

Ready to move beyond acupuncture and use the full scope of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM)? Our Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioner (TCMP) Diploma program builds on your acupuncture foundation, adding training in Chinese herbs and advanced TCM.

This program prepares you to become a licensed TCMP, so you can provide holistic care using both acupuncture and herbal therapies. Whether you’re just starting or already practice acupuncture, we have a path for you to add herbal medicine to your skillset.

Why Study to Become a TCM Practitioner at CCATCM?

Choosing us means joining a community focused on real TCM education and helping you succeed. We give you the knowledge and hands-on experience needed to do well as a TCM Practitioner.

Comprehensive Herbal Medicine Training

Learn about hundreds of Chinese herbs, formulas, and how to use them in practice. You won’t just read about herbs; you’ll identify, handle, and learn to combine them in our dedicated herb room, guided by experienced herbalists. This hands-on work helps you understand the practical side of preparing and using herbal medicine.

Pathway to Licensure

Our program gives you the 3036 hours (including 812 clinical hours) needed to write the Pan-Canadian R.TCMP board exams, which are required to practice in regulated provinces.

Advanced TCM Diagnostics & Theory

Go beyond the basics to master the complex diagnostic skills needed for prescribing herbs effectively. You’ll learn to differentiate between subtly different pulse qualities that point towards specific imbalances and delve into the advanced theories that guide successful TCM practice.

Integrated Clinical Practice

Apply your acupuncture and herbal knowledge together in our busy student clinic. You’ll gain confidence by treating real patients with diverse conditions, guided closely by expert faculty.

Experienced Faculty

Learn from highly qualified instructors, including PhDs in TCM. Our instructors bring years of real-world patient cases into the classroom, moving beyond textbook theory with valuable clinical experience from both China and Canada.

Supportive Learning Environment

Benefit from small class sizes that allow for personal attention from instructors. You’ll learn in a collaborative community alongside fellow students and supportive faculty.

Acupuncture is only one part of the broader system of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Advancing to a TCM Practitioner allows you to deepen your knowledge beyond acupuncture and develop advanced skills in TCM diagnosis, Chinese herbal medicine, herbal formulas, TCM internal medicine, TCM gynecology, TCM pediatrics, and other specialized areas of TCM.

By combining acupuncture with Chinese herbal medicine, you can offer a broader range of TCM treatment approaches and provide more comprehensive patient care.

This advanced training can also help differentiate you professionally from practitioners who offer acupuncture alone. Patients seeking a more comprehensive TCM approach may choose a practitioner who can incorporate both acupuncture and herbal medicine into their care, giving you the opportunity to expand your services, attract a broader patient base, and strengthen your professional practice.

For acupuncturists looking to advance their education, expand their scope of knowledge, and stand out in the profession, the TCMP pathway is the natural next step.

P.S. — Your education doesn’t have to stop there. After completing the TCMP program, you can continue your education for one additional year to complete the Doctor of Traditional Chinese Medicine (DR.TCM) program, allowing you to advance your TCM education to an even higher level. In some provinces, qualified Doctor of TCM practitioners may also be permitted to use the “Dr.” title, depending on provincial regulations and registration requirements.
