CCATCM Self-Interest & Continuing Education Courses

We are excited to offer the general public the opportunity to attend any of our classes as self-interest courses starting September 2025!

Upon completion, participants will receive a certificate. These courses are designed for personal enrichment or continuing education purposes. Individuals not enrolled in our Intensive Two-Year or Three-Year Acupuncture Diploma Programs are not authorized to practice the skills learned in these courses.

Explore Foundational TCM Theory

Understanding the core principles of TCM is key to effective practice. These courses break down essential concepts:

Foundations of Traditional Chinese Medicine (A) TCM-1001

As the first part in the Foundation of Traditional Chinese Medicine series, this course introduces students to Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), which is deeply rooted in ancient Chinese philosophy. Students will learn basic concepts and applications of TCM including Yin Yang theory, Five Element theory, introduction to the theory of Internal organ, the theory of essential substances and the theoretical system of Chinese Medicine.

Schedule: In Person on Thursday 9:00am -1:00pm or online on Wednesdays at 6:00pm-10:00pm

Chinese Culture History and Language TCM-1005

This course will provide a brief introduction to the history of China and Traditional and Modern Chinese culture. This course will also provide an introduction to communication using basic language and expressions in Chinese. Students will learn both basic character recognition and pinyin in the Chinese Language, including Mandarin Keywords and written stroke patterns.

Self-Healing Arts (Tai Ji, Qi Gong, etc.) (SHA-6001)

This course introduces students to the basic theory and exercise of traditional Chinese Qi Gong and Tai Ji. Qi gong is a powerful system of healing and energy medicine from China, involving breathing techniques, gentle movement, and meditation to cleanse, strengthen, and circulate life energy. Students will learn how natural healing arts can reduce stress, enhance the immune system, and improve cardiovascular, respiratory, circulatory, lymphatic, and digestive functions. Students will also further study theory and application skills for health promotion, disease prevention, and longevity, including Qi gong, Tui Na, and mental and physical exercises.

TCM Nutrition (HRB-8001)

This course will introduce students to Chinese herbs and nutrition and how to apply TCM foundations theory to use common foods as medicine. Students will learn the theory of how to make medicinal products such as teas, congee, soup, and other dishes. Students will learn individual herbs and foods, including their nature, taste, actions, and indications. This course will focus on the most frequently used products. This course will also introduce students to TCM health preservation, basic principles of prevention in TCM, and basic life preservation, such as diet, exercise, and lifestyle.

Introduction to TCM Herbology and Formula (Zhong Yao) (HRB-8002)

This is an introductory course that studies some of the most common Chinese herbs and includes theory to help students understand how different herbs are categorized and prepared. In addition, students learn proper dosage levels, ideal combinations, and incompatibilities. Students also learn how to classify herbs based on their qualities, appearance, and action.

Acupressure Massage For Relaxation and Health – EMA-4001

This course compounds TCM foundation theory and brings it alive through practical application. Dr Li-Chen Acupressure Massage will teach students the location of meridians and acupressure points to treat stress, anxiety and promote relaxation.

Extended Physiology – BIO-5002

This course explores the function and regulation of the human body, focusing on the integration of organ systems to maintain homeostasis. It covers neural and hormonal regulation, as well as musculoskeletal, circulatory, respiratory, digestive, urinary, immune, reproductive, and endocrine systems, providing a foundation for understanding medical concepts and body function.

Extended Pathology – BIO-5003

This course introduces human and brain pathology, exploring the nature and mechanisms of disease at the cellular level. It covers key medical concepts and terminology, providing a foundation for understanding physical therapies and soft tissue manipulation.

Dr. Li-Chen Meridian Massage – EMA-4002

Meridian Acupressure Massage combines TCM theory with hands-on practice, covering meridian pathways, qi and blood flow, and Tui Na techniques. The Dr. Li-Chen Acupressure Method emphasizes balancing yin and yang, regulating organ function, and enhancing overall wellness.

Tui Na – EMA-4003

This Tui Na course introduces the foundational TCM theories and practical techniques of traditional Chinese therapeutic massage. It covers key manipulations and acupressure methods for common conditions in adults and children, as well as self-Tui Na practices to promote personal health and healing.

Extended Western Medical Diagnosis – BIO-5006

This course introduces standard adult examinations, including history-taking and physical assessment techniques from a Western Medicine perspective. It also covers common laboratory diagnostics and the principles of differential diagnosis for frequently encountered clinical symptoms.

TCM Nutrition – HRB-8001

This course introduces Chinese herbs and nutrition, applying TCM principles to use common foods and herbs as medicine. It covers the preparation of medicinal teas, congee, soups, and other dishes, as well as the nature, taste, actions, and indications of individual herbs and foods. The course also explores TCM health preservation, prevention principles, and basic lifestyle practices for wellness.

Practice Management, People Skills, and Professionalism – PRO-7001

Students will show grasp of fundamental counseling skills for TCM practice, clinician SEUS abilities, ethical framework, trauma-informed care, handling tough clients and topics, risk assessment, conflict resolution, and practitioner self care.

Extended Human Anatomy – BIO-5001

This course provides a comprehensive introduction to human anatomy, covering common anatomical terms and major body systems, including skeletal, muscular, nervous, circulatory, digestive, cardiovascular, and endocrine systems. It also explores the functions of different body regions and their interactions.
