Our College

Our College provides students with an enriching experience that includes a first-class education, flexible schedule, and an on-site student clinic.

Our focus is purely on
Acupuncture and TCM

The Canadian College of Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine (CCATCM) is the only educational institution in Atlantic Canada where you can learn to become an acupuncturist and open the door to a rewarding medical career. At CCATCM you can take either our Two-Year Intensive Acupuncture Diploma or Three-Year Acupuncture Diploma programs. This is your opportunity to join a growing profession. In the province of Nova Scotia alone there are over 3,000 massage therapists, but fewer than 200 acupuncturists.

Our core faculty has been in clinical practice and instructing in this field of medicine for more than 30 years. Several faculty members have Masters and PhD degrees in acupuncture and traditional Chinese medicine.

Our History

Canadian College of Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine (CCATCM) began with the vision of its founders, a group of esteemed healthcare professionals who wanted to share their knowledge with Canadians and train the next generation of healers. Among their accomplishments is the Canadian College of Natural Medicine (CCNM), which merged with other schools to become the Canadian College of Massage and Hydrotherapy (CCMH); CCANM, a college that provides continuing education to health-care professionals; and the Canadian College of Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine, a school that provides acupuncture education and training to the practitioners of tomorrow.

Today, the Canadian College of Acupuncture and TCM is one of the largest schools in Canada by both campus size and students. It provides education that integrates ancient knowledge and indigenous practises with hands on teaching and exceptional teachers. As one of the only schools that offers online resources and business training, CCATCM offers a curriculum that thoroughly prepares their student healers for the modern world.

  1. CCATCM is the only fully-recognized and accredited college in Eastern Canada dedicated to Acupuncture and TCM.
  2. Eligible for Canada Student Loans
  3. Funding available for applicants with Military and Armed Forces experience
  4. Skills development funding available for those who qualify
  5. CCATCM has an exceptional Acupuncture Diploma Program that meets provincial, national and international standards.
  6. The college offers a second program called the Natural Holistic Nutrition Counselor Diploma Program. It meets provincial, national and international standards. It is a skill that can be used as the basis of a new career or be a new service to provide to existing clients for practicing acupuncturists, massage therapists, chiropractors, physiotherapists, naturopaths and those working in other health-related professions.
  7. Taught by highly-recognized and skilled TCM Doctors who have over 30 years of clinical experience
  8. On-site Student Clinic and Professional clinic (S-T & L-C Life Care Acupuncture and Natural Medicine Clinics)
  9. Acupuncture students learn Acupressure Massage in their first semester. This allows them to learn and feel where the acupuncture points and meridians are. Students are then able to communicate with patients and have the necessary skills begin practicing in the CCATCM student clinic.
  10. CCATCM incorporates a hands-on clinical practice, along with internships to assist in transitioning from student to practitioner for both the Acupuncture and Natural Nutrition Counsellor Diploma Programs.
  11. Our approach to hands-on learning is unique compared to similar schools in Canada. That is due to our student clinic, which is very high in demand from the local community. CCATCM students have a one-to-one patient-to-student ratio and start the process of preparing to communicate with patients during their first semester.
  12. CCATCM students have one of the highest passing rates among all TCM schools for the Pan Canadian Exam. This exam when completed allows graduates of acupuncture programs to practice in provinces where acupuncture is regulated. Those provinces include Newfoundland and Labrador, Quebec, Ontario, Alberta and British Columbia. The most recent number provided to CCATCM for our graduates are from 2016 and produced a 100 percent success rate.
  13. CCATCM graduates can obtain master’s and PhD degrees through the college’s affiliation with Guangzhou Chinese Medicine University in China.
  14. For students interested in travel, every year CCATCM hosts a Traditional Chinese Medicine Themed trip to China. During this trip, students will visit TCM hospitals and explore Chinese culture and geography. What sets CCATCM apart from other institutions doing similar trips is a special arrangement where all students have their meals, accommodations, and learning expenses are 100 percent covered.
  15. CCATCM offers a range of self-interest courses and workshops, for those looking to continue education and expand vocational skillsets.
  16. Our campus overlooks Bedford Basin with accessibility to public transit and is within walking distance to restaurants, grocery stores, and shopping centres.
